Gokyo to Lukla Helicopter Transfer
The helicopter takes off from the helipad in Gokyo and flies south down the valley, passing over the Gokyo Lakes and the Ngozumpa Glacier before continuing over Machherma, Namche Bazaar, and Phakding on the way to Lukla. Because the route follows the same valley most trekkers walked through, you will recognize many of the villages you stayed in, seen this time from the air.
You can book a shared seat, where you fly with other trekkers heading the same way, or a private charter for your group. Morning departures are more common because visibility and wind conditions are usually more stable earlier in the day.

Weather and Flight Conditions
Helicopter flights from Gokyo operate under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), which means the pilot needs clear visibility to fly safely. Gokyo sits close to the operational ceiling for mountain helicopters, and the surrounding Ngozumpa Glacier basin can produce sudden wind changes and cloud buildup. Because of this, we cannot guarantee an exact departure or arrival time, and flights can be delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled if weather or visibility does not allow safe flying. Morning departures, generally between 6:30 and 8:30 AM, tend to have the most stable conditions, which is why most flights are scheduled early in the day. The final decision on whether a flight departs always rests with the pilot. If your flight is delayed or cancelled due to weather, it is rescheduled to the next available window at no extra charge. Because weather can change quickly in this region, we recommend keeping at least one buffer day in your itinerary in case of delay.
