Momo was originated from Tibet, widely spreading over Nepal, Bhutan, and parts of India. There are varieties of Momos that you can taste in Nepal. The Momos are typically steamed dumplings with various fillings from meat to cheese and vegetables. In Nepal, momos are a popular comfort and street food i.e. it developed a creative variety. Momo in Nepal is found in every restaurant and not only that it is cheaper and yummy !! You can find various kinds and types of momo in different shapes, sizes,s, and stuffing. Momo is usually served with a dipping sauce, locally called achar, and is made with tomato as a base ingredient.

Usually, the momos are steamed and are found in every restaurant in Nepal. These delicious juicy momos are filled with grind veggies or meat and are put in steamer. Everest momo, Magic momo, and Sandar momo are a few of the most popular momo places in Kathmandu.
Chilly momo is commonly known as C. momo. It is a regular momo dipped in a hot and spicy sauce. If you are trying something hot and spicy then, C. momo is your best option. Try this once; we bet you will love it. Okay, you may, but that will only depend upon your ability to eat spicy things.
Kothey momo is made in an elongated shape. It is a half fried and half steamed momo. The filling can be either veg or various kinds of meat. This momo is mostly available in chicken, buff, and pork.
Jhol basically means liquid and Jhol momos are the momos that are drowned in a bowl full of sauce called jhol achhar. The sauce or jhol achar is a bit of a hot, spicy, and tangy twist. Jhol aachar is thin in texture. Most of the restaurant in Kathmandu valley serve Jhol momo but we believe, Le Trio and GG Machhan are two of the best places to have Jhol momo in Kathmandu valley.
Fried and steam-fried momos are made by deep-frying the momo or frying after steaming the momo. It is a crunchy version of momos with a little bit oilier. The taste will totally make you forget about your health-conscious thoughts.
Tandoori momo is a lip-smacking combo of momo and tandoori. It has a rich texture, and your taste bud will definitely drool over it. One of the best restaurants to eat at a Tandoori momo inside Kathmandu valley is the Best Food Café at Gwarko.
Open momo was originated from Gangri Sumai Restaurant Momo, what makes the momos unique and ultra-flavorful is the accompanying sauces. The momos are like open flowers and you can pick and choose the sauces to fill them with. Usually, there will be around four sauces accompanying the open momos. You can mix sauces in one bite or keep it all one flavor. Flavor can vary from sweet, sour, vinegary, salty, etc.
The cabbage for this spinach or green momos is made of spinach blended with flour and rub with the water from the spinach. A bit on the chewy side, the spinach taste is a little rubbery side and not as juicy as its sister. These momos are available at many places in Kathmandu valley but Alice restaurant at Gairidhara serves you better green momo.
This momo can be a safe pick for health-conscious folks. The buckwheat momo packs in more protein and nutrients than its regular counterpart momos. This momo is very tasty with a light texture. You should eat them piping hot, as they tend to be a bit dry when they get cold.
This type of momo is filled with either Paneer, Khuwa, or Cheese and is served with achar. It is a very tasty momo but sounds a bit unusual, consuming dairy products in the form of momo is always an option.
The chocolate momo is a unique flower-shaped momo with chilled gooey dark chocolate tucked between the layers. You will definitely feel a little sinful breaking into it. Very few on the list, you can find chocolate momo at Momo Queen, Lazimpat.
