Start Planning: Are you planning to visit Nepal?

In this article, you will get to know about the best season to travel to Nepal as I will not be diplomatic on this topic.

The climate of Nepal varies from one region to other because of the high geographical diversity. Although Nepal is a small landlocked country, the variation of its landform has caused the difference in the climate of each region.

Basically, the best season to travel to Nepal depends upon what activity you are planning to do and which places in Nepal you are visiting.

Geographically, Nepal is divided into 3 regions – The plain region, the Hilly region, and the Mountain region. When you go northern parts of Nepal, you will see the Himalayan range situated horizontally East to West, while the Plain region is in the southern part. Whereas, the Hilly region lies in the midst of the Plain region and Mountain region.

The Mountain region of Nepal is famous for adventure activities like Trekking and Climbing. On the other hand, you can enjoy paragliding, rafting, bungee jumping, hiking, sightseeing, etc activities in the Hilly region. Likewise, many tourists come to enjoy wildlife activities, boating, sightseeing, pilgrimage tour, etc.

You need to study the climate and weather in different seasons before you plan to travel to Nepal.

There are 4 seasons in Nepal: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

The time is perfect for the plantation. Generally, it is a rainy season. Because the majority population is involved in agriculture, they celebrate this time for the plantation of rice as the time is best for it.

A Nepal visit in summer may be also on your bucket list if you want to play with rain and explore the culture of traditional farming in Nepal. But traveling in the country’s area may be difficult due to the landslides while there might be floods in some parts of the Plain region.

As exceptions, you can keep Mustang and Simikot on your bucket list of visits as the region does not receive Monsoon because it remains out of the monsoon area.

Winter (Dec, Jan, and Feb)

Many of the trekking trails that cross high passes like Thorong, Chola, Kongma La, etc will be closed in the season as the trail will be invisible due to the snow.

To avoid the high pressure of dry and cold weather, Terai (plain) region can be your destination to visit. It is considered to be the best time for bird watching. However, the region is not untouched by the cold waves.
