The Route & Cultural Experience

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar, followed by a local jeep ride to Koto (2,600m). From there, the trek winds through Meta, Kyang, and the culturally rich Phu Gaon, eventually reaching Himlung Base Camp.

Located in the Nar-Phu Valley, this region remained isolated until 1992 and still requires a special restricted area permit. The Tibetan-influenced villages, ancient monasteries, and untouched landscapes make this route both spiritually and visually inspiring.

The climb follows the southern flank of the northwest ridge, with Camp 1 and Camp 2 strategically placed for acclimatization and success. The ascent is mostly snow and ice with minimal rock climbing, making it ideal for climbers progressing toward 8,000-meter peaks.

History of Himlung Himal
